Abundance of Avocado? Freeze Them!

I was lucky, and happily surprised, to find avocados on sale at a whopping $0.33 each! This is a great sale since they usually go for over $1.00 in my area. I took advantage and stocked up on this yummy-licious "superfood".

Despite my best efforts to use them quickly, they were ripening before I was ready. So, in my normal fashion, and I did some research on freezing avocados. Now, I'm rather picky on the food I freeze because I don't like the texture of my food to change when it's put in the freezer. But I figured I give freezing an avocado a whirl since they are mushy when ripe anyway! LOL

Frozen Avocado
Freezing avocados is an EPIC WIN! I was smiling like a kid in a candy store when I took my frozen avocados out of the freezer. They were still beautifully colored, defrosted well, and stood up to my "texture" standards. I will definitely be freezing these in bulk!

It's so easy, you should give it a try....

Simply cut the avocado in half and remove the seed. To prevent them from browning, I used Fruit Fresh; but you can squeeze lemon AND lime juice on them after you cut them. I use a vacuum sealer, but you can wrap them in Saran Wrap and then place into a freezer bag. While I'm not sure how long they will last, I wouldn't keep them in the freezer any long than three months if using a freezer bag or 6 months if using a vacuum sealer.

When you are ready to use them thaw in the refrigerator at least 8 hours. Frozen avocados are perfect for guacamole, sauces, and soups!
